It may sound a little daunting, but the use of AHAs such as glycolic, mandelic and lactic acids in cosmetics and toiletries is perfectly safe. In fact, many dermatologists claim that, for most, this new generation of face acids are the miracle key ingredients for happy, healthy skin.

So, what benefit does each of these acids bring? 

Glycolic acid exfoliates and resurfaces dull, uneven skin for a smoother and more even-looking complexion. 

The most powerful of the AHAs, it's the 'holy grail' ingredient for exfoliation and is derived from sugar cane. It effectively removes the layer of dead skin cells from the top of the dermis, revealing brighter, fresher skin.

Its power ironically lies in its molecule size, which is smaller than other AHA ingredients. This allows it to rapidly penetrate to the lower layers of the skin, cleaning out dirt and grime from our pores and loosening any built-up sebum and proteins around hair follicles.

Mandelic acid is a go-to anti-ageing ingredient in the world of skincare; by dissolving the tiny bonds that hold skin cells together it accelerates cell turnover, helping to remove dead skin on the surface that can make your complexion look dull, as well as fine lines. 

TEMPLESPA uses a unique, laboratory-curated mild mandelic acid which is nut-free and softer and slower to react on the skin than other AHAs.

MOST REVEALING also contains a small amount of lactic acid, used in skincare for its ability to treat hyper-pigmentation and age spots. It's a key ingredient in improving skin tone and can also reduce the appearance of pores. 

While all AHAs exfoliate the skin, lactic acid also helps to keep the skin moisturised and feeling less dry thanks to its water-holding properties.

MOST REVEALING comes in a 50ml airless pump pack, which preserves its 'bubbling' formulation.

For the best results, use it once or twice a week after cleansing and before applying your toner.

Pump twice into your hand and apply it to clean damp skin, avoiding the eye area. Smooth it on, giving it a good massage, and leave it to fizz and bubble. 

Once the bubbles have subsided, remove thoroughly with a warm damp cloth and then splash your face with warm water. 

Pat your skin dry and follow up with a toner, serum and ideally an SPF moisturiser. 

NATURAL INGREDIENTS THAT SMELL INCREDIBLE

When it comes to its botanical extracts, MOST REVEALING contains apple, kiwi and chamomile.

Kiwis are full of antioxidants, which help to protect against harmful free radicals, and contain vitamins C and E which help to regenerate the skin's surface layers.

Known for its soothing, relaxing properties, especially when consumed as a tea, chamomile is rich in essential oils and has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.

If you have very sensitive skin, it's a good idea to do a patch test first, just to be on the safe side. Simply apply a small amount to your jaw line, so it's out of sight, and give it a minute. If it becomes uncomfortable, wipe it away.

It's worth remembering that AHAs and glycolic acids can make skin feel a little sensitive on first use. It's quite normal to experience a tingling sensation with this type of formula - it doesn't necessarily mean you're experiencing an allergic reaction. As with any product, if it feels really uncomfortable then stop and take it off.

Due to it containing AHAs, your skin may become more sensitive to the sun, so it's advisable to apply an SPF product afterwards and limit exposure while using MOST REVEALING, and for two weeks afterwards.
