Elizabeth Isabella Dala, better known as the Cake Jar Boss, owner and chief baker at Bella's Cake Studio, gave more insight into the sweet treats.

Bella's Cake Studio jar cakes come in a variety of flavours, such as red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and carrot, available daily in Windhoek and at Oshakati. They use topping like strawberry, butterscotch, caramel sauce, caramel and cheese cream, and chocolate and granadilla mouse.

“We basically play around with them. They are our key to happiness. We like to call it happiness in a jar. We have benefited so much from the cake jars and the people like them,” she said.

Dala started selling cake jars soon after the country's first Covid-19 lockdown and has not stopped ever since.

She said the idea was inspired by a friend.

“Mr IQ just wanted a small something to eat and I gave him. Honestly, people love our cake jars. When we started selling them, we were not sure how it would go, but with the help of TikTok, Facebook and Instagram, I can gladly say we are getting nothing but love and positive vibes from the Namibian nation,” Dala said.

Dala said many clients like the cake because they are affordable and delicious.

“Sometimes you just don't want to buy a whole cake or a small piece. Sometimes you just want something very moist and you don't always get that in cakes,” she said.

Besides the cake jars, Bella's Cake Studio also sells cakes for events such as bridal parties and birthdays.

Dala's interest in baking started when she was very young. Her mother taught her and her sisters how to bake. The bakery started officially six years ago at home.

“Baking is a passion for me. I started baking full-time after I dropped out of university. I will go back eventually to finish and become a medical doctor, as I have a passion for helping people,” she said.

A cake jar lover, Sammy Beukes, said the sweet treats are the latest popular innovation in the field of cakes, which have brought some excitement to the baking industry.

“For the longest time, we have heard of cakes and the image that comes to mind is a round cake. Just like cakes, cake in jars also come in a variety of flavours and taste great. You can choose one according to your cravings. I love the fact that cake jars come in small portions. They come in small containers, which make them easy to eat. Whenever I have a craving for a cake and don't want to eat the whole cake, I order cake in a jar,” Beukes said.
